After a day of clothes shopping, you return home, thinking along the way, "I don't need to wash these, do I? They look clean and smell great, so I think I'll be okay to wear them tomorrow without washing them." While this may seem like a good idea in your head, not washing new clothes before wearing them can actually put you at risk for a multitude of issues. One of the biggest reasons to wash clothes before wearing them is to cut down on the excess dye on the garment. Most clothes are made from synthetic fibers and then dyed with azo-aniline dyes, which can cause allergic reactions in some people. Even if you are not allergic, the extra dye can leave your skin irritated and inflamed for days to come. Not only that, but several microbes, such as fungus, bacteria, fecal matter, and even lice can be transferred to the clothing while it is still sitting in the store. By washing, you take these microbes right off, leaving your new clothes feeling soft and germ-free. Trust us, one wash is not going to ruin that crisp, perfect look that new clothes have, but it will keep you on the safe side of things. So before you show off your new additions, make sure to throw them in the wash first. It'll be quick, easy, and definitely worthwhile.
