Fun Fact Friday: Patriotic Laundry
Friday is here, Sea Spray fans, and with it comes along another edition of Fun Fact Friday! This week, in honor of Memorial Day, we're taking things back to the Revolutionary War, where laundry played a pivotal part in victory. Being a small army with limited resources, General George Washington relied heavily on information given to him by spies, and set up sever rings throughout the colonies. One of the rings, the Culper Spy Ring, was one of the most successful rings he had. This Long Island-based ring would take notes on the ships entering New York, and report their findings to a Continental Officer. To set up meeting locations, Anna Strong used the laundry on her clothesline to correspond to meeting places or the types of ships entering. The color, position, and the type of garment all meant something different, which went totally unnoticed by the British. Now, how's that for some American ingenuity?
While we don't use your clothes to send a message, we do take pride in giving your garments a proper cleaning. To have your outfits cleaned and pressed for this Memorial Day, come on in and we can set you right up!
From all of us at Sea Spray Dry Cleaning, we wish you and your family a very happy Memorial Day!
